I hope to check back again at some point to see whether you post again under this tag, whether you find blogging constructive for your research. Could you tell more about how you were hoping/wondering that a blogged research diary would be useful? I've pondered the idea, and have recently been playing with Zotero as diary as well as reference collector and note-keeper. While I can publish my Zotero library so my "diary" can be read, it doesn't enable feedback. On the other hand I quickly jot thoughts into Zotero that I wouldn't to my blog because I would spend too long trying to polish things for my blog.

I like the idea of audio, holding a locket and telling it how I'm feeling about my research. In practice, particularly if I want to retrieve those thoughts later, might be complicated I guess (I'm not technologist); but I'm not sure I'd bother tucking pieces of paper into a locket. On the other hand, if the locket opened into a fan of colours, and I might note a word here or there that might work. I thought about hole punching but the fan might eventually fall apart from perforation. I like the "playing with" - at the very least a locket might be a reminder to jot down one's feelings.
